It can be very difficult to deal with a toothache during pregnancy because you need to be careful about what you put into your body. When you are not pregnant, you do not have to worry as much about the medications that you take and the remedies that you attempt, but if you are carrying a baby it’s very different. The safest thing to do is to visit the dentist, as they will be able to at least give you advice and possibly prescribe you with prescription medicine that is approved for pregnant mothers.
There are some home remedies that you can try for toothache during pregnancy before you go to the dentist. Some are as close as your own kitchen, such as applying a piece of onion or garlic to the tooth causing you pain. These vegetables are very potent and can actually be used to kill bacteria. When applied to infected areas, they can even help with the healing process. If you are in an extreme amount of pain, then you should just set the onion or garlic on the tooth. If you are able to chew lightly, you should do that as it will help to release the antiseptic nutrients contained in the vegetables that will bring you relief from the pain. Garlic and onions are both great toothache during pregnancy remedies because they are effective and they don’t pose any risk to your baby. (Dad might not want to be kissed for a while)
Another option is to mix a teaspoon of salt with a cup of lukewarm water and gargle it. Just like garlic and onions, salt is very good at killing bacteria and healing infections. If you do this for a minute or less you should be able to stop the pain in your mouth. It seems too simple to be effective, but it can work wonders and make the pain stop in less than a half hour. Remember, when all toothache during pregnancy remedies you can try from home are ineffective, you should see the dentist. You don’t want to gamble at all with the health of your baby so it’s better to be on the safe side. A good dentist should be able to get you relief with no risks.
